Tried and tested for over 4,000 years and regularly used by over one-fifth of
the world's population, Tui-Na Traditional Chinese Massage therapy is now
rapidly increasing in popularity in the West. Originating in China, Tui-Na
therapy forms part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which also includes
Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine and Qigong (physical) exercises.
A system of therapy employing both massage and manipulation techniques,
Tui-Na is primarily used to relieve pain but is also effective in the treatment
of common ailments such as asthma, sciatica, all types of back pain, frozen
shoulder, insomnia, IBS, sinusitis, muscle spasm, fibromyalgia
symptoms etc. Tui-Na massage techniques can also help with many other health
issues including: stress management, common sports injuries, rehabilitation,
immune system boosting and general well-being.
Tui-Na literally means 'push' and 'grasp'. Its invigorating and
re-energising style focuses deep pressure and movement along the body's energy
or acupressure meridians; working deeply into their numerous Qi (chee) or
acupressure points. Chinese medicine views all disease as caused by imbalances
and blockages in the flow of Qi energy. Tui-Na releases the blocked or stagnant
Qi thus restoring balanced flow and promoting health and vitality.
What is Acupressure?
Acupressure is an ancient Chinese technique based on the principles of acupuncture,
and involves in the use of finger pressure (without needles) on specific points along the body. It
is a way of accessing and releasing blocked or congested energy centres in the
body. Chinese cultures believe the points to be junctures of meridian pathways
that carry energy called Qi (chi). Western scientists have also mapped out and
proven the existence of these points using electrical devices. Acupressure can
be used to treat the conditions as acupuncture does.
